Job Overview
Job Title: Senior UX Designer (maternity cover)
Contract: 9 Months Fixed Term Contract
Location: London - Hybrid
Application Closing Date: Friday 13th February 2026
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior UX Designer to join BMJ Group's UX team for a maternity cover contract role (9 months). Come and help us get a wider understanding of user needs to design and develop products that healthcare professionals love. Join us and you’ll make a significant contribution to BMJ Group’s vision of ‘Creating a healthier world’.
The Senior UX Designer will join BMJ Group’s central UX team and work within our Learning product team. This role will lead on all UX activities and UCD thinking for BMJ Learning, BMJ OnExam and BMJ Portfolio to ensure end-user and customer needs are at the heart of the design and development process.
BMJ Learning is on a mission to empower all Healthcare Professionals to learn, grow and create a healthier world. We are an online learning platform specifically for the healthcare sector, think LinkedIn Learning but for Doctors and Nurses! We’re already an established brand having a positive impact on healthcare professionals and their patients. However, there is still a lot of opportunity for improvement and growth of the product.
We’re coming to the end of rebuilding and migrating the platform to a new technology stack, so now we are free to start making the big improvements that will delight our users. Crucially, this includes expanding our ecosystem to integrate stand-alone products like BMJ Portfolio and BMJ OnExam into one seamless learning experience.
We are looking for someone who understands the value of thinking and can solve problems using data, research and experience testing, and together with an understanding of front-end and design concepts, can create engaging experiences that are commercially successful.
Responsibilities
Lead a user-centred design (UCD) approach to support BMJ Learning and associated products, drawing on the necessary UX methods and tools relevant to any given project
Take complex requirements and create conceptual designs and user journeys to solve usability issues and customer problems

Skills & Experience

Balance the needs of users with those of the business while considering technical constraints
Think people first so that solutions work across appropriate environments and device-types
The ability to understand complex scenarios and translate into conceptual designs and user journeys via clickable prototypes to test and iterate with users
Support, influence and convince stakeholders to consider the needs of their users and customers above their own ideas and opinions
Good communication skills are essential when working in an agile, remote-first product delivery environment with an off-shore dev team
Multi-platform experience across all devices
Significant experience with wire-framing/prototyping tools e.g. Figma (req.), InVision, Sketch, Axure
