BMJ, a global healthcare knowledge business, seeks a Senior Marketing Manager (12 months maternity cover) for its Customer Marketing team. The ideal candidate has proven experience creating and executing strategic marketing plans in healthcare, academic, and/or governmental contexts and can work autonomously, liaising with external customers.

This role focuses on implementing marketing plans for BMJ's main B2B audiences and products, including Journals, BMJ Best Practice, and BMJ Learning, with a focus on international growth and new territories. This pivotal leadership position involves mentoring and strategically developing a high-performing team of three, who are responsible for planning and executing activities to deliver growth and retention strategies.

Reporting to the Head of Customer Marketing, the role collaborates closely with commercial, customer success, and product teams to create market-aligned plans. Key responsibilities include fostering growth into a clear sales pipeline, and using market/competitor insight alongside Salesforce CRM data for planning and execution.

Core leadership aspects include proactive team management, project oversight (costs, timeframes, scope control, quality), and occasionally deputising for the Head of Customer Marketing to ensure operational continuity.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Planning and Execution: Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies and plans for target audiences, aligning with company objectives. Responsible for deliverables and communication to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Managing tactical promotional activity: Collaborate with the team to effectively execute all tactical marketing activities across online/offline channels, including design, production, digital campaigns, and social media.

  • Identifying sales opportunities: proactively working with key commercial colleagues to support current customers and new pipeline generation. This might involve evaluating regular usage data and liaising with sales to support key client activities and visits.

  • Conference & Event attendance: Provide line management of the Exhibitions Marketing Manager ensuring we coordinate conference attendance for institutional customers. Investigate advisory groups and engage with large funding organisation roundtables to support customers and prospects.

  • Delivering results and outcomes: Have an expert understanding of the best channels for engagement with these segments and ensure our access to these channels is compliance with standards and cost-effective.
