Salary: From £53k per annum

The Department 

The BMJ Technology Assessment Group (BMJ-TAG) is looking for an experienced Systematic Reviewer/ Clinical Evidence Analyst with a keen interest in evidence-based medicine. 

The BMJ-TAG is one of the Centres of Excellence for health technology assessments (HTA), commissioned by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to conduct independent scientific research to evaluate the value of health technologies for the NHS. The BMJ-TAG is made up of a team of highly skilled Clinical Evidence Analysts and Health Economists. We promote a culture of independent thinking, teamwork, and scientific excellence.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Managing various projects
  • Communicating methods and outcomes to key stakeholders and working closely with other members of the team. 
  • Reviewing and critiquing the evidence submitted by companies as part of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) HTA programme on medicines, medical devices and diagnostics. 
  • Evaluating: the methods of identifying evidence, the quality of the submitted evidence and the validity of presented analyses. This will include assessing the methods and conclusions of direct and indirect methods of analysis, including pairwise analyses, network meta-analyses and other indirect methods for treatment comparisons. 
  • Representing BMJ-TAG at NICE committee meetings and have opportunities to expand your knowledge and skill by attending conferences and training courses. 
  • Leading the production of independent systematic reviews for which you will develop review protocols, design search strategies, and be involved in sifting, data extraction and analysis, interpretation and communication of findings, and report writing. 
  • Contributing to the development of proposals for funding projects and preparing journal articles.

 

 

Essential requirements and qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in life science, medicine, pharmacy, public health, clinical epidemiology, statistics, or another relevant discipline
  • Experience in performing meta-analysis, including data extraction, data synthesis and interpreting results
  • Familiarity with network meta-analysis and/or other methods of indirect treatment comparisons
  • Experience in systematic review methodology and critical appraisal of studies
  • Strong writing skills with a proven track record of delivering high-quality reports
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
  • An organised and methodological approach to planning and delivering work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a small team
  • Highly computer literate

 

Location

The work can be either home based or in our London office and staff will be encouraged to attend the office for specific activities on a semi-regular basis.
