We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Digital Content Editor to join the Digital Health team at BMJ. The role will support BMJ’s clinical improvement business, which includes our flagship clinical decision support tool BMJ Best Practice. BMJ Best Practice helps healthcare professionals and students around the world with step-by-step guidance on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention.

The Digital Content Editor will work closely with production and editorial teams to ensure that published material adheres to product style and is clear and concise. Along with the wider production team, your organisational skills, flexibility and innovation will ensure schedules are kept and technical integrity of content is maintained. 


Responsibilities

  • To copyedit and proofread Digital Health content to ensure that published material is clear, concise, consistent, accurate, and compatible with product style.

  • High level of attention to detail and ability to maintain concentration over prolonged periods.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of editorial and production teams.

  • To act as an internal expert on stylistic and technical content aspects of Digital Health products, including providing style advice to scientific, clinical, and product teams.

  • Lead on manipulating and formatting digital content, ensuring that technical integrity is maintained.

  • Experience applying house styles, style guide (AMA).

  • Competence in reference checking and citation formatting.

  • Experience handling tracked changes documents.

  • Engage with colleagues to ensure the copy editing runs to schedule.


Qualifications

  • At least 3 years as a medical copy editor

  • Qualified to degree level, preferably with a background in science or health

  • Experience working in publishing, ideally scientific, medical or technical publications

  • Excellent grammar, spelling and English (both British and US) language skills

  • Experience working with digital data formats such as XML, HTML would be an advantage
