Salary: £33,833

Job Purpose

The BMJ Group Media Relations team (part of Corporate Marketing) is looking for a Communications Assistant to help raise public awareness of BMJ Group’s mission and products through global news and social media.

In this role, you will help implement proactive media and social media activities to support our business goals, and showcase our impact and influence.

If you have an interest in health news and social media, this is a great opportunity to make a real difference. The role will involve connecting with news journalists, authors, and external stakeholders, as well as working collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues.


Responsibilities

  • Distributing press releases to journalists across the world, as well as staff and journal social media editors, to promote new journal content and other BMJ Group news

  • Tracking and logging daily media coverage and compiling a weekly media coverage report using our media monitoring database and analytics tools

  • Posting press released content on Eurekalert, the company website, corporate social media channels (via Sprout Social), and Buzz

  • Maintaining our expert Media Panel as a valuable resource for journalists

  • Working closely with our media database account manager to refine and improve our monitoring service

  • Working with our Communications Manager to create multi-media content for corporate social media channels

  • Keeping up to date with trends in health communications and social media


Key Skills

  • Attention to detail and ability to analyse and present data to compile visually engaging media coverage reports

  • IT competence, including Google applications and WordPress (essential), Google Analytics, and social media tools, such as Sprout Social (desirable)

  • Good written and verbal communication skills for working collaboratively with a range of external stakeholders and colleagues

  • Ability to work under pressure, be flexible, and respond effectively and promptly to the often unpredictable nature and intensity of media relations work

  • An interest in health news and social media and awareness of what is relevant to BMJ Group’s focus and strategy
