Location: London hybrid (UK-based) 

Contract: 12 Months Fixed Term Contract (full-time)

Salary: £42,050

An opportunity has arisen to join our award-winning editorial team at The BMJ as a Clinical News Reporter.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic reporter to help deliver timely, accurate, and impactful clinical stories for The BMJ, one of the world’s most respected medical journals.

This is a key role within our news team. You will be responsible for producing compelling clinical news articles for our website and print publication, breaking your own original stories, as well as monitoring a wide range of news sources to ensure we stay ahead of the curve on clinical developments relevant to our audience. The job will also involve an element of general medical news reporting, from big policy announcements to doctors' pay negotiations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Writing and filing breaking news stories on tight deadlines

  • Monitoring news sources and identifying leads with clinical relevance

  • Commissioning and coordinating news coverage in response to emerging events

  • Liaising with editors and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and relevance

  • Contributing to The BMJ’s commitment to clarity, balance, and evidence-based reporting


About you:

  • Proven experience in health or science journalism

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce accurate copy at speed

  • A keen news sense and ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Confidence in engaging with clinical research, medical experts, and complex data
