Job Title: Clinical Editor
Contract: Permanent (Full time)
Salary: £65,476 - £72,752 per annum
Location: BMA House, London - UK (Hybrid)

A great opportunity to join The BMJ as a Clinical Editor. The successful candidate will work on and develop clinical and academic sections of The BMJ in rotation (namely education, scholarly comment, and research). You will also provide support for commissioning, content development, and journal development across the BMJ Journals portfolio.
Responsibilities

Work on clinical or academic sections of The BMJ, and work with other journals within the BMJ group (BMJJs)

Develop and implement the editorial strategy for these workstreams

Manage staff within the relevant workstream and to matrix manage and work with other teams such as BMJJ editors and publishers, multimedia, the technical editors and production

Participate in The BMJ’s duty editor rota attending The BMJ’s relevant editorial management meetings

Participate in project and collection teams to ensure joined-up working within the department

Contribute to execution of The BMJ’s international strategy and digital transformation strategy

Provide clinical input to editorial teams

Act as an ambassador for The BMJ and the BMJJs and their values, including in external outreach to promote journals and develop relationships

Deliver high quality editorial, clinical content in a timely manner for digital and print - mainly articles but also audio and video content where appropriate

Train and mentor other staff to develop key editorial skills

Participate in, and lead when required, cross portfolio communications and collaboration

Use and report data and analytics to inform decisions about different content types.
Experience
We would like the post holder to possess experience in all listed areas, but the relative experience in each will vary by individual.
Essential
-
Clinical experience to inform editorial decision-making and ensure relevance of articles.

Experience in critical appraisal of evidence to inform decision-making.

Experience writing for a clinical and/or public health audience.
Desirable
-
Editorial experience on a general medical journal at assistant editor or senior editor level, including in commissioning, editing, and writing content for an international audience.

Experience of critical appraisal, peer review, and editing of research, opinion, scholarly comment, and/or education articles.

Experience managing teams and working in a matrix, hybrid environment.
