Business Development Manager

Job Overview

Job Title: Business Development Manager 

Contract: Permanent (Full Time)

Salary:  £52,989 - £64,000 + 15k OTE

Location: BMA House, London (Hybrid)]

We’re looking to hire an individual who has a demonstrable history of securing new business, ideally with providers of online and F2F educational content aimed at doctors and other health professionals. You will need to be happy with a high degree of autonomy as you will be responsible for identifying and developing new relationships, honing the proposition, and developing new recommendations depending on customer feedback. The role will involve building productive relationships with senior decision makers within educational institutions and will therefore require experience and sophistication.  The strength of the BMJ brand opens doors like almost no other, but this is an untapped customer base for us so you’ll have to be someone who enjoys the challenge of finding new customers. You’ll be selling a range of services from simple listings on an enhanced version of our Course Finder directory product to content hosting on the BMJ Learning platform in a revenue share model.

You will target decision makers in the education departments of medical schools and private providers of CPD and training aimed at doctors and other healthcare professionals. The primary focus will be the UK market and will cover F2F, online and hybrid activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Capacity to manage the sales funnel and pursue opportunities in timely manner 
  • Propose creative solutions to produce productive commercial partnerships
  • Present the proposition as a compelling, tailored solution to individual challenges   
  • Negotiate commercial agreements and contracts with new partners
  • Become an expert in BMJ’s educational products and platforms and their features and benefits
  • Prepare and maintain essential documentation and presentations
  • Diligently manage and update the CRM, ensuring that leads and contacts are well-maintained
  • Play a key role in business forecasting
  • Developing and maintaining own contacts and engagement strategy
  • You will set the sales strategy and ensure its implementation.
  • Interrogating/harnessing data to create persuasive arguments/spot opportunities/demonstrate success 
  • Identify new market opportunities in the healthcare education sector
  • Work with the wider BMJ sales team as required to support large multi-product deals

 

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in sales, including new business
  • You use multiple strategies to identifying and connect with key decision makers
  • Track record of creating business opportunities from a standing start
  • Adept at building rapport with senior decision makers 
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and numeracy skills
  • Mastery of structured sales communication
  • Capable presenter
  • Dynamic self-starter, highly motivated and eager to achieve success
  • Highly organised and takes a planned approach to work

Preferred

  • Experience of selling into the NHS or academic institutions
  • Experience of selling online educational products
  • Educated to degree level of equivalent
