Within this mission, the Partnerships team has a long history of working in collaboration with healthcare providers, health tech,  global funders and government organisations to deliver education, share best practice, and disseminate knowledge. 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Partnerships Manager to join the BMJ Partnerships team, with the primary focus of building partnerships around publications, content collections and bespoke events and roundtables. You will bring existing expertise in how to navigate the key decision makers and influencers in organisations to understand their priorities and help them understand the benefits of working with BMJ.


Supported by the wider team, key functions of the role will include -

  • New business development: Identify new partners within target markets, sourcing contacts, defining the initial sales pitch, setting up customer meetings and initiating the sales process.

  • Consultative partnering: Work collaboratively with partners to identify the problem(s) the partner is trying to solve and identify what product or service will do from the customer perspective, including publications, multimedia, and event activity. 

  • Sector Intelligence: Understand, build and maintain relationships with funders and research organisations in the life sciences and global health sector. 

  • Strategic Relationship Management: Proactively cultivate and manage key strategic partnerships while maintaining excellent relations with existing partners through regular engagement to identify areas of growth.

  • Proposals and presentations: Create compelling presentations & proposals, maintaining a customer-led, consultative selling approach based on partner needs and insights.  

  • Pipeline and revenue management: Build a strong sales pipeline and meet key revenue targets while actively managing a pipeline of new partnerships and business opportunities for BMJ events. 

  • Internal and editorial collaboration: Liaise with journal Editors and Publishers to support building a strong pipeline of new opportunities, utilising existing networks and contacts.  Work closely with the Partnerships Editors to ensure all funded supplements, collections or other white paper activity aligns and adheres to all BMJ Editorial guidelines. 

  • Cross-functional teamwork: Work collaboratively with teams across BMJ and external contractors as required to ensure deliverables, communicating decisions and rationales clearly to a wide range of diverse internal stakeholders to enable effective delivery. 


Experience required

  • Proven track record of hitting and exceeding sales targets

  • Experience of developing and writing business and customer proposals. 

  • Experience of dealing with senior stakeholders and clients. 

  • Professional background or experience in the Medical, Healthcare, Life Sciences and Research sectors 

  • A strong understanding of principles of publication and dissemination strategies

Applicants must be based in the UK and have the appropriate right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
