Job Title:  Lead Clinical Editor, BMJ Learning    

Contract:  Permanent (full-time)

Salary: £75,000 - £80,000 

Location: BMA House (Hybrid)

BMJ Learning is looking for a talented clinical editor, who can lead our team creating high-quality learning resources for doctors and other healthcare professionals.

It includes a range of styles of learning, including adaptive,  video-led and interactive case-based courses.

Job Purpose

The Lead Clinical Editor plays a key role in BMJ Learning, overseeing the editorial team and ensuring high-quality content is delivered on time. Reporting to the Head of Content, the role involves close collaboration with departments such as Production and Marketing to maintain editorial excellence. With strong editorial and project management skills, the Lead Clinical Editor must be able to critically appraise clinical evidence and ensure content meets the highest standards. This position is ideal for an experienced and motivated clinical editor seeking an opportunity to grow, innovate, and contribute within a supportive and dynamic environment.  

Responsibilities

The Lead Clinical Editor:

  • Creates, commissions and edits content, including multimedia, for BMJ Learning
  • Takes day-to-day decisions over how tasks are prioritised within the editorial team to meet key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Line-manages section editors and oversees an editorial budget 
  • Ensures quality procedures are followed, and all content is relevant and peer reviewed
  • Engages regularly with external clinical experts to create and plan content
  • Clearly understands the content needs of different target groups (e.g. GPs, medical trainees, nurses, medical students etc) and contributes to product development
  • Deputises for Head of Content, when required.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications 

A successful candidate must have:

  • Excellent writing, editing and commissioning skills
  • An ability to understand and critically appraise clinical evidence
  • Experience of managing a team, editorial projects and/or budgets to targets.


Desirable attributes include:

  • A first or second degree in medicine, pharmacy, nursing or biomedical science
  • Qualifications or certificates in journalism or writing/editing
  • Employment creating clinical or scientific information for a reputable publisher
  • Experience creating multimedia or interactive content.
