Job Title: Editor-in-Chief, Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin                        

Contract: Permanent; 4 days/week or full time 

Salary: £69 632 - £77 370 depending on experience                  

Location: London/hybrid

Job Purpose

For over 60 years, Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin (DTB) has been providing independent, practical, patient-oriented, evidence-based content on medicines for healthcare professionals.

DTB summarises the best available evidence to enable doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to make informed and unbiased choices to help patients get the best care. DTB is wholly independent of the pharmaceutical industry, government and regulatory authorities and is also free of advertising and other forms of commercial sponsorship. DTB’s aim is to promote rational prescribing and the effective use of therapeutics, supporting patient safety and optimal healthcare outcomes. DTB is committed to maintaining its reputation for rigorous, objective analysis and clear, concise communication.

As Editor-in-Chief you will have overall editorial responsibility for DTB and have a key role in developing and delivering the editorial strategy. You will lead the editorial team, commissioning and managing articles, ensuring the scientific accuracy and independence of all content, and maintaining the highest standards of editorial integrity and relevance.

This role is offered as full-time; part-time applications from candidates who wish to remain in clinical practice will also be considered.


Responsibilities

  • Implement editorial strategy, in collaboration with the Editorial Board, and in line with DTB’s mission and values, to meet the evolving needs of healthcare professionals. 
  • Maintain and enhance DTB's position as a trusted and independent source of information, free from commercial bias.
  • Lead the editorial team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.
  • Keep abreast of developments with new medicines, therapeutics and clinical practice, as well as publishing trends, to ensure DTB remains current and impactful.
  • Represent DTB externally at conferences, meetings and with key stakeholders to promote its visibility and influence.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications  

  • A clinical background with a deep understanding of pharmacology, therapeutics and clinical practice.
  • Experience in medical or scientific editing, with a track record in an editorial leadership role for a peer-reviewed publication.
  • Demonstrable expertise in critical appraisal of medical literature and evidence-based medicine.
  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field is desirable.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information clearly and concisely to a healthcare professional audience.
  • Proven ability to manage editorial processes, workflows and production schedules.
  • Editorial leadership and team management skills, with experience in mentoring and developing editorial staff.
  • An unwavering commitment to scientific integrity, objectivity and editorial independence.
  • Familiarity with publishing ethics and guidelines (e.g., ICMJE, COPE).
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in using editorial management systems and publishing software.
  • Experience with digital publishing platforms and strategies.
  • Established network within the medical and pharmaceutical communities.
  • Decisive and able to make sound judgments.
  • Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Collaborative and team player.
  • Proactive and innovative.
  • Resilient and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
