Job Title: Digital Production Editor

Contract: Full time, permanent

Salary:  £40,726 - £45,252

Location: London, hybrid working

Job Purpose

The BMJ is seeking an efficient, organised, and proactive Digital Production Editor to join the flagship publication’s team. This is a rewarding and varied role, responsible for providing technical and editorial support across the department, and with scope to innovate.

 

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the schedule for day-to-day online publication of content on bmj.com in coordination with the editors and web team, and assisting the production team with technical publication issues

  • Responsible for the weekly publication of The BMJ virtual issue and app, checking and troubleshooting the publication of associated email alerts, and supporting The BMJ Product Manager on app development

  • Working with colleagues on projects to standardise and improve digital process in the BMJ Family (TBMJ, BMJ Open, BMJ Medicine)

  • Working with the Editorial Production Manager on BMJ Collections , including establishing publication schedules, landing pages, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders

  • Working with the web team to update bmj.com, selecting images for articles, writing article summaries for the home and channel pages, shortening titles, freeing up articles, linking articles, and adding banners

  • Working with the web team on the curation of our homepage, covid hub, landing pages, and BMJ Medicine website as required

  • Working with colleagues in Technology to ensure accurate third party delivery, and troubleshooting as necessary

  • Managing the corrections and republication process, providing reports as needed and updating according to policy

  • Assisting the infographics editor with process and publication troubleshooting

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Demonstrable STM publishing technical production knowledge

  • An ability to work both within a team environment and self-directed, managing daily and weekly deadlines

  • Strong time-management skills with an ability to switch between tasks as needed

  • Analytical and proactive approach to improving publication and process efficiency

  • Platform and third party delivery knowledge

  • Familiarity with Google Workspaces and Content Management Systems an advantage
