Contract: Permanent (Full-Time)

Salary: £39,540

Location: BMA House, London - UK (Hybrid)

We are recruiting for a new role to work across our diverse portfolio of specialist medical journals. The Content Development Specialist will help to implement a new clinical research content development strategy to support the aim of our journals to disseminate high quality articles to researchers and clinicians. The Content Development Specialist will research, commission, and supervise the delivery of clinical research content that is relevant to strategically targeted readership groups.

Working closely with journal Editors and Publishers, the role holder will join the content development team to shape and enhance content pipelines and manage a streamlined and efficient operation to deliver BMJ’s content development programme.

 

Responsibilities

  • Implementing the content development strategy to procure and sustain engaging clinical content in targeted therapeutic fields

  • Undertake research into emerging clinical output trends to support an evidence-based content development programme

  • Work with Editors and marketing to write proposals and calls for papers

  • Manage editors, authors and peer reviewers to ensure timely delivery of manuscripts 

  • Meet content development targets across multiple therapeutic areas 

  • Monitor and report accurately on content development progress against targets, proactively flagging issues and identifying actions to resolve them

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • A BSc in a scientific, medical or health field or equivalent experience would be desirable

  • Ideally 1-2 years of experience in scholarly publishing and an understanding of open access and the scientific research to publication process

  • Experience of commissioning packages of content would be desirable 

  • Proactive and able to manage workload in order to meet targets and deadlines

  • Good project management and organisational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with people at all levels of seniority

  • Strong computer literacy and familiarity with publishing indexing platforms such as Web of Science and online manuscript submission systems
